Clementine the Cat (2000-2005)
Clementine Motts (Felix domesticus itty-bitty-kitticus) is a Domestic Short Hair cat born in 2001 and left to fend for himself in a disused barn populated by wild cats and savage dogs. A kindly zoophile named Janie found poor Clem one day with his rear left leg having been bitten nearly in half in a dog attack; she took the wounded kitten to the McCowan Animal Clinic to be humanely destroyed. Big-hearted veterinarian Dr. Jim Wilson was quickly charmed by the spunky cat who purred on the X-ray table while his mutilated limb was painfully manipulated. Unable to put the cat down, Jim repaired the broken leg with a stainless steel screw and began petitioning to find a permenant home for young Clementine. He found one with us.
Clem is affectionately known as Clematronic, Clemlin, Crazy, Monster, Trouble-Tat and Titten. He is the most personable and engaging cat I have ever known, myself. In many ways he is much more like a dog than a cat, obsessed with human beings and attempting to get into the middle of whatever they're up to. Clem's favourite place to sit is in anything that belongs to our baby.
Clem enjoys runnning up doorframes, being chased around, catching and fetching his small stuffed mouse, mimicking human expressions, and causing general mayhem in the household. Clem's best reciprocating friend is his dog, and his best friend who doesn't reciprocate his affections is Miss Kitty.
Clem was found dead in our front yeard in the summer of 2005. These events are detailed in the illustrated storybook Goodbye to Kitty.
